Draugrs are undead monsters that inhabit their former bodies, but unlike Zombies, they hail from Norse Mythology and are on a deadly mission for revenge.

Draugrs are vengeful creatures that are reputed to be the corpses of deceased Viking warriors, so that alone should pretty much settle the argument that they are cooler than zombies. But lucky for us, there are more reasons to fear and revere these totally-dead war mongers.

Draugrs Are Much Cooler Than Zombies

While Zombies flail around on a singular quest for flesh and brains, Draugrs have a much more sinister appetite to satiate. Draugrs specifically return from the dead to exact revenge on members of the living who wronged them in their lifetime. And this fact makes Draugrs more enviable than Zombies! Who hasn't been eternally angered by a rival and declared: "I would return from the dead to get even with that s.o.b.!"? Draugrs actually fulfill that threat. It just happens to be difficult for most people to make that kind of commitment.

Draugrs Haunt Both Land and Sea

As well as having the audacity to hop out of graves all over the Scandinavian countryside, Draugrs are sometimes the reanimated corpses of those lost at sea. Draugrs have been known to rise out of the foam-skimmed ocean depths, covered in seaweed and dead hungry for human flesh. Were they also described as rudely emitting a series of shrill sneering noises, the sea Draugr would be a ringer for that sludgy sea monster sod from Scooby Doo, Where Are You.

Can't You Smell the Undead Heading Towards You?

Why does it seem that no one can ever smell a Zombie as it stumble-bums their way? One would imagine that the scent of necrotic degradation and the musty odor of a long-buried casket may tip off potential victims of a Zombie's approach. However, in the case of the Draugrs, impending victims have a better chance of escape, what with the typical odor the Undead carry combined with that charming scent dead sea creatures channel. A horrifyingly pungent musk that would be easier to notice; though probably not so easy on the senses.

Another issue shall be raised here, and it concerns the treatment the Undead give to us oxygen breathers. Zombies feast on humans without much enthusiasm, show of gratitude, or, worse still, selection process! It seems that any living creature within tottering-range is just fine for a Zombie meal, which doesn't exactly make their human victims feel special for being chosen. But Draugrs have particular humans they return from the dead for, and they methodically hunt, haunt, torture, and consume these victims. Draugrs also savagely make meat of anyone who gets in their way, just so you know.
